About Trichology
Trichology is the paramedical field which studies the science of health and disease of the hair and scalp.
The word "Trichology" originates from the ancient Greek word Trikhos meaning hair.
A Trichologist is someone who has successfully completed the certification course which was developed at the University of Southern California, and is administered by the International Association of Trichologists (I.A.T).
The I.A.T. is a nonprofit organisation which was established in 1974 to promote the study, research and practice in all aspects relating to the treatment and care of hair and scalp in health and disease. The International Association of Trichology governs the educational Trichology program, establishes standards, conducts exams and certifies students and publishes educational materials.
Qualified Trichologists are registered members who adhere to a strict Code Of Ethics and are required to stay up to date with technical information and attend annual conferences.
Trichologists have a special interest in nutrition and diet, various hormones and the endocrine system, the immune system, nervous, circulatory and digestive systems, which all play a major role in health and disorders of the hair and scalp.
